Beth Biggs
Beth M. Biggs, RCA, graduated with a BFA and a BAEd from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (1983) and received a MFA from State University of New York at New Paltz, NY (1996).
Beth’s teaching career began 30 years ago at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. In 1997, she became the Senior Instructor, Fine Arts and Crafts Program, at Nunavut Arctic College. Beth moved to Fredericton in 2006 to teach at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. Since 2011 she has been the Curriculum Manager for the College, assisting with curriculum development and contributing to the College’s vision.
In 2001 Beth was commissioned by Governor General Adrienne Clarkson to produce a silver vessel for Her Majesty the Queen for the Golden Jubilee of Elizabeth II. She was commissioned in 2003 to produce a parting gift from Canada for Former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. Beth also created the Clarkson Cup, which is awarded for excellence in women’s hockey in 2005. Most recently she was commissioned by the Toronto Scottish Regiment (Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother’s Own) to produce jewellery for Charles, Prince of Wales and family for his 60th birthday.
Beth has received numerous grants from Artsnb, the Canada Council, the Ontario Crafts Council, the Nunavut Arts Council and the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation. In 2003, she received the Golden Jubilee Medal for her contribution to arts education in Nunavut and in 2006 was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Her work is included in many private and public collections. Beth Biggs’ practice demonstrates her profound commitment to her field. Combined with her career as an educator in visual arts, Beth has maintained an active professional practice exhibiting in private and public institutions throughout Canada and internationally.
